Changelog#
Notable changes per release, condensed. The repository's CHANGELOG.md is the full log and the gate: a release tag cannot ship without a matching section there. bite follows Keep a Changelog and semantic versioning.
v0.5.0 — 2026-10-22#
Scoped, durable index purges and safer replay semantics:
index_forget— scoped purge of local index rows (preview first, confirmto execute), durable across re-crawls via recorded tombstones;index_statuslists scopes,index_wipeclears them with the rest.bite index forget— the CLI surface for the same purge (--yesto execute).no_body— declared onindex_rebuild(+ CLI--no-body): mail metadata only, bodies never stored.- Safer helper-death replays — read-only tools retry transparently after a helper death; mutating tools return an explicit not-replayed error instead of risking a double-send. A new
helper_exited_unsenterror distinguishes requests that provably never reached the helper. - Data-dir privacy at every startup — not only
bite setup; closes the crawl-first gap (directories created 0700 up front,batches/,quarantine/and the store tightened). - Concurrent MCP dispatch — each request on its own thread; a slow Apple Events round-trip no longer stalls pipelined traffic.
- A docs-conformance test fence: the registry and
docs/protocol.mdcannot drift again; dependency bumps including rustls-webpki for RUSTSEC-2026-0382.
v0.4.0 — 2026-10-18#
The index grows up:
- Incremental mail crawl — subsequent crawls process only the delta window since the last completed run.
bite doctor --json— machine-readable diagnostics.- OSA port — the Mail crawl transport moved to NSAppleScript; the raw AppleEvents path is broken on macOS 27.
- Perf — one-scan index stats, column-projected search, skip-count option (
skip_count) on index-served mail searches; newest-first filter-only results (BM25 keeps full-text). - Hardening — wedged-helper recycling with a
BITE_TIMEOUT_SECSoverride, toolchain resolution from secure paths only, supply-chain lanes (cargo-audit, cargo-deny), CI actions pinned to SHAs, search limits capped at 200.
v0.3.0 — 2026-09-23#
The entity index lands: LanceDB-backed unified search, bulk operations, and the detached crawl process with staged-batch ingestion.
v0.1.1 — 2026-09-22#
SBApplication.timeout is in ticks, not seconds — Mail AppleEvents timeouts were effectively instantaneous. Fixed.
v0.1.0 — 2026-09-21#
Initial public release: native Apple app access over MCP — Rust control plane, Swift helpers, Mail first. Source-only releases; prebuilt/notarized binaries deliberately deferred (roadmap).
